Black Lincoln Sheep
About
Welcome to the website for the Black Lincoln Longwool sheep. The longwools have been around in Britain for centuries and, at one time, were the most valuable sheep of all. The strong wool was ideal for hard wearing materials. The black version of the breed has been recognised since 1984 and the beautiful wool is much sort after by crafters. This site will tell you all about these sheep.

There are about 8 flocks of Black Lincoln Longwool sheep in the UK. They are located from the Scottish border to Kent and across to Wales.
Each year they produce lambs with a wide range of colours from off-white to jet black, with some spotty ones as well.
The breeders will usually shear their sheep in May and the flleeces can be bought then. Shearling fleeces (those from one-year old sheep) are quite rare so need to be ordered in advance.
Breeding stock is usually offered for sale from August onwards although again numbers are not huge so make your enquiries early. Rams can sometimes be borrowed, which helps new owners.
See the contacts pages for locations of flocks.
